 BEST Reality Show June 25, 2008
Let me start this review by saying that I am not a reality show fan by any means. If it doesn't star Kathy Griffin (Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List - The Complete First Season), then I don't want any part of it. Why? I prefer well-scripted shows. Something that involves a writer...with creative and intuitive talent.
I watched WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO? Season 2 for two reasons: (1) I enjoy anything involving comic books, superheroes, etc. and (2) I knew one of the contestants. WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO turned out to be one of the most entertaining and "real" shows I've ever seen, so I'd recommend it to people for that reason alone as my number three (3) reason. I enjoyed the motivation behind the people wanting to try out, as well as their stamina and perseverance during the "contests."
To me, it's the only reality show worth watching because of its substance. Yes, there were some silly moments, but even one of my friends who's not into superheroes truly enjoyed it. I hope they do a Season 3...and now I've also got to get Season 1 (Who Wants to Be A Superhero? (2 DVD Set)) to watch it, too!

I am a big "Who Wants To Be A SuperHero" fan, I am saying this right at the beginning so anyone reading this will know I might be biased towards the show.
When you start watching this show, you have to going in knowing this show itself, doesn't take it seriously. There are a few eye rolling moments and some parts are so corny you cannot believe they actually said it with a straight face. And the effects are not ground breaking in any meaning of the word.
But then there are some genuinely heart-warming moments where the contestants drop the superhero act and show you who they are deep down inside. There are sights of the heroes facing fears, using their heads and truly caring about their actions. If all people were like these guys, the world would be a much nicer place.
Good wholesome family fun. I recommend it buying it for anyone who isn't trying to take over the world with a deathray on the moon.

It didn't take itself seriously, but did try to choose characters that had an interesting, challenging backstory and of course the hero had to be a clean cut family man. The production values were much better this time and they spend more money making the challenges and special effects more interesting.
To its credit it weeded out wannabe actors or wanna be on Television but I think it should raise its age to 21 from 18. One of the contestants struck me as just too young.

Stan Lee has a very annoying habit of promoting himself where he really doesn't belong and this series is one good example. The premise of this reality show is extremely bizarre and a little confusing: People vie to create themselves as Real-Life Super Heroes, which is at once ridiculous and sad. The contestants -- obviously -- can never be what they're attempting to be, and can never attain this goal.
They're very reminiscent of COS-Players, that is, grown-ups who dress up for no good reason except to celebrate their unhealthy fatuation with a type of genre. It's sort of compelling in a way that you don't want to look, but you kind of have to.
